HOW TO START A GREEN YOUTH ALLIANCE CHAPTER
___ Go to your counselor or to the principal's office to find out
about the procedure for forming a new club.
___ Get all the forms that are required
___ A sponsor or advisor (usually a teacher) is often required for
forming a new club.
- Ask science teachers first.
- Tell them that the Green Youth Alliance (GYA) is a community
environmental services organization
that focuses on environmental education and environmental service
projects for students.
- Show them our brochure.
- Assure the teachers that as a sponsor or advisor they are not
required to attend GYA meetings or events unless they want to.
Their responsibilities are minimal and are all optional, such
as allowing GYA leaders to use their classroom for meetings during
lunch and helping to publicize our community service events among
the students in their classes by making short announcements.
- If sponsors need to contact us, tell them to email us at: admin@greenyouthalliance.org
___ Have your sponsor sign a hard copy of the “Chapter Formation
Form” so that you can turn it in at the next GYA regional
meeting.
___ Formation accomplished
___ Go to www. greenyouthalliance.org and submit an online “Chapter
Formation Form.”
___ Go to www.greenyouthalliance.org and check to see when the next
Regional Meeting is scheduled for.
___ Go to www.greenyouthalliance.org and check to see when the next
community service event is.
___ Go to www.greenyouthalliance.org and check out the videos in
the “Education” section. Choose 1 or 2 videos to show
at your first meeting
___ Advertise the first GYA meeting during lunch by putting up flyers
and reaching out one-on-one to your friends.
___ At the first meeting, hand out individual membership forms and
talk about what GYA offers (you can refer to the GYA brochure.)
___ At the meeting, announce the next community service event and
tell the students that they will earn COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS for
attending the event.
___ Pass out waiver forms for the event.
___ Set a date for the next GYA school meeting and tell students
they can turn in their membership form and membership dues at the
next meeting or they can just bring their membership forms, waiver
forms, and their $8 membership dues to their first community service
event.
___ Attend the next GYA Regional Steering Committee meeting and
turn in the “Chapter Formation Form” and any individual
membership forms you may have collected.
If you have questions, send an email to admin@greenyouthalliance.org.
